Newrez E-Waste Management Policy and Practices

December 13, 2024

At Newrez, we recognize that our responsibility to our communities extends beyond support for equitable and accessible lending. It includes the health and sustainability of those communities as well. Because of this, we have implemented procedures to minimize the generation of electronic waste (known as e-waste) in our business operations, repurpose, and/or responsibly dispose of the material where possible.

Our goal is to minimize the amount of electronic waste ending up in landfills. To achieve this goal, we focus on the overall lifecycle of electronic equipment by maintaining a three-pronged approach: restore, repurpose, and recycle.

“Restore” is our first step in waste diversion: restoring electronics that can be fixed, maintained or upgraded in hardware and software systems. We’re proud of our practice to repair and reuse electronic equipment, immediately extending the useful life of the hardware in which we thoughtfully invest.

When a machine can no longer perform to the operating standards Newrez requires, it moves to the “repurpose” phase. When restore is not an option, our Technology and Facilities teams partner with Community Investment to find appropriate nonprofit partners or schools that will make use of the equipment.

As a last and final resort, Newrez contracts with e-waste disposal vendors certified under the Environmental Protection Agency’s Responsible Recycling (or “R2”) standards. These vendors ensure equipment, which often contain toxic metals that pose risk to human and animal health, is disposed of properly.

We encourage all companies and consumers to consider their environmental impact when purchasing and disposing of electronics.
